Iran attack: 61 flights cancelled in Chennai

Tamil Nadu: 61 flights to and from Chennai Airport were cancelled in two days due to the attack on Iran.

Israel and the United States launched a surprise attack on Iran on Saturday. Iran retaliated by attacking the United States. This has created tension in the Middle East. Air services have come to a complete halt as Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, closed their airspace. 28 flights cancelled on the first day: A total of 28 flights were cancelled at Chennai Airport on Saturday, including 16 flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, and Muscat, and 12 flights to those countries.

33 flights cancelled on the second day: On the second day, Sunday, a total of 33 flights were cancelled, including 17 flights from Chennai to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Muscat, and 16 flights from there to Chennai.

Cancellations likely to increase: Flights from London, the United States, and Germany to Chennai are having to fly through the airspace of Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. Because these airspaces are closed, flights to and from Chennai via other routes may experience delays of several hours. Additionally, many flights are likely to be cancelled.
