Investigation from early morning till late evening, strict vigil on electricity theft

New Delhi. Adani Electricity has launched a big campaign against electricity theft in the financial year 2025-26. Due to the company’s strict monitoring and action, it has been successful in reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) Losses. The company said that AT&C loss declined to 4.46 percent during this period, whereas in the last financial year this figure was 4.7 percent. According to the company, the power distribution system has become more effective due to reduction in AT&C loss by 0.24 percent. Besides, the additional financial burden on honest consumers who pay electricity bills on time will also be reduced. Raids conducted at 36,720 places Adani Electricity launched a large-scale campaign during the financial year 2025-26 to prevent electricity theft. During this period the company’s teams conducted a total of 36,720 raids. The company said that to prevent electricity theft, special monitoring campaigns were conducted in the early morning, late evening and even during holidays. An increase of about 40 percent was recorded in these special campaigns as compared to the previous time. A total of 5,897 cases of electricity theft were reported during these actions. The company also seized illegal electrical equipment and wires being used in the theft. 486 FIR registered, electricity theft worth crores revealed According to Adani Electricity, taking strict action in cases of electricity theft, 486 FIRs were registered against the accused. During investigation, electricity theft of about 1.98 crore units (19.82 million units) was detected. Its estimated price is said to be around Rs 43.39 crore. During the raid, the company also seized about 79.25 tonnes of illegal electrical wires and other equipment. Honest consumers will benefit The company says that preventing electricity theft strengthens the electricity distribution system and directly benefits those consumers who pay their electricity bills regularly. Distribution companies have to suffer losses due to electricity theft, which can sometimes impact electricity rates and services. In such a situation, efforts to prevent theft increase the efficiency of the system. Electricity theft is a legal offense Electricity theft is considered a serious crime under law. According to the rules, there is a provision of financial fine as well as jail sentence against those who steal electricity. In some cases, the accused may be sentenced to up to three years in prison. Adani Electricity said that monitoring and action will be continued in future to prevent electricity theft. The company is emphasizing on further improving the distribution system through modern technology and special inspection campaigns. Overall, this campaign run by the company is being considered an important step towards controlling the cases of electricity theft and making the electricity distribution system stronger.
