Infiltration bid foiled in Jammu and Kashmir, one killed, 2 arrested

Jammu (IANS) | Army personnel foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district in the early hours of Sunday. Along with this, the soldiers killed one intruder and caught two others. Defense officials gave this information. On 8th April, at around 10.15 pm, troops deployed along the LoC in Poonch sector noticed a suspicious movement of a group (three persons) close to the LoC.

Defense Ministry spokesman Lt Col Devendra Anand said the group crossed the Line of Control around midnight and started infiltration from their side.

Vigilant soldiers kept a constant watch on the infiltrating group. Today (Sunday) at around 2 am, as the group approached the fence, alert army personnel posted on the fence challenged the intruders.

During this, the army personnel opened fire and killed one intruder, while the other two managed to escape into the jungle.

The spokesman said the area was immediately cordoned off to prevent their escape across the Line of Control. A search operation was launched after the firing, during which the body of an infiltrator was recovered from the encounter site. As the search progressed in the forest, one of the intruders was captured alive with injuries.

In the subsequent search, the third intruder was also caught alive, he said. Fourteen packets weighing about 17 kg along with three bags containing narcotics, Pakistani currency, some documents and eatables have been recovered in the search operation so far.

According to Lt Col Anand, the two infiltrators who were caught alive during preliminary interrogation claimed that they (all three) are residents of Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and are residents of Chanjal village Maidan Mohalla.

With their prompt action, alert Indian Army personnel have foiled a major infiltration bid by a narco-terrorist group, which had the potential to disturb peace in Poonch and Rajouri districts through their nefarious designs.

He said that the Indian Army is on constant vigil along the Line of Control and is fully prepared to foil any such attempt in future also.
