Indore: Alumni want the government to take over Indore Christian College

Madhya Pradesh: A delegation of alumni of Indore Christian College presented a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of Devi Ahilya University (DAVV), Professor Rakesh Singhai, addressed to the Governor and Chief Minister. It demanded that the state government, through the university, operate and control this historic institution.

The delegation stated that Indore Christian College is not only a protected historical heritage of the city but also a renowned center of higher education, having produced prominent figures in politics, cinema, administration, journalism, sports, and judiciary. Located in the heart of Indore, the campus boasts extensive infrastructure, including numerous buildings and large sports grounds, making it ideal for academic expansion.

The memorandum emphasized that the university could expand administrative facilities on the college campus and introduce several self-financed courses. Currently, the institute has been offering courses like BA, BCom, and LLB for years. It was also recalled that former President of India, the late Shankar Dayal Sharma, had announced the introduction of science courses during his visit to Indore, a promise that has not yet been fulfilled.

The delegation emphasized that if the government takes over the college, it will benefit students from the middle class, general category, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Class, and minority communities by providing them with affordable higher education. They also pointed out that the existing university administrative building is insufficient to accommodate Indore’s growing population, and that the Christian College campus could house several university departments.
