Maharashtra : In an attempt to dodge the police, two drug smugglers tried to smuggle brown sugar by hiding it in the soles of slippers. However, the Crime Branch sensed their ploy and arrested them. The police also seized 52.54 grams of brown sugar and an auto-rickshaw from their possession, worth a total of Rs 8 lakh. According to the police, acting on a tip-off, the officers stopped an auto-rickshaw near the government hospital behind DRP Line. Ajay Banoda of Juni Indore and Sonu Pachole of Ramchand Nagar were sitting in the auto. Sources claimed that though an initial search of the suspects and the auto-rickshaw did not reveal any narcotics, the officers became suspicious of their unusually thick slippers. On closer examination, packets of brown sugar were found hidden inside the soles.
