India’s longest sea bridge ‘Atal Setu’ inaugurated

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Rs 17.840 crore Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, the country’s longest bridge and the longest sea bridge connecting Mumbai south to Nhava-Sheva in Navi Mumbai. The bridge will provide faster connectivity to the nearby Navi Mumbai International Airport and reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune. This will also improve connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The first foundation stone of the bridge was laid by Prime Minister Modi in December 2016. On Friday, the Prime Minister also laid the first stone of an underground tunnel that will connect the Eastern Highway in Mumbai’s east to Marine Drive in Mumbai’s south. The 9.2 km long tunnel will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 8.700 crore.
