India’s finished steel imports decline in April

Business Business: India’s finished steel imports declined by 11.3% in April 2025. The main reason for this decline was the low supply of steel from China and Japan. India has temporarily imposed a 12% duty on cheap steel coming from China, due to which imports from China fell by 26.5% to 0.1 million tonnes.
Steel imports from Japan also fell by a massive 60% and shrunk to 85,600 tonnes. In contrast, South Korea became the largest country to send steel to India, from where 0.15 million tonnes were imported, which is 2.4% more than last year.
On the other hand, steel exports from India also remained weak and fell by 25.7% to 0.4 million tonnes in April. Exports to European countries also declined, with 6% less steel sent to Belgium and 60.4% less steel to Italy.
