India’s economy is expected to grow by 6.6% in 2025 – United Nations

Delhi Delhi. The Indian economy is projected to grow by 6.6 per cent in 2025, mainly supported by strong private consumption and investment, according to a United Nations report.The report, titled ‘United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects 2025’, was released here on Wednesday.It said the near-term outlook for South Asia is expected to remain strong, with growth projected at 5.7 per cent in 2025 and 6 per cent in 2026, “driven by strong performance in India as well as economic recovery in some other economies, including Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka”.

The Indian economy grew 6.8 per cent in 2024 and is projected to grow 6.6 per cent in 2025. The Indian economy is projected to return to growth of 6.8 per cent in 2026. “India’s economy, the largest in the (South Asia) region, is projected to grow 6.6 per cent in 2025, supported mainly by strong private consumption and investment. Additionally, capital expenditure on infrastructure development is expected to have a strong multiplier effect on growth in the coming years,” the report said. It added that strong export growth in services and certain commodity categories, particularly pharmaceuticals and electronics, will drive economic activity for India. On the supply side, expansion in the manufacturing and services sectors will continue to drive the economy during the forecast period.
