India will be the third largest economy in future: Purandeswari

Andhra Pradesh: BJP Andhra Pradesh president Purandeswari said India, which was the 11th economic power in the world, has reached the fifth position under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. She believes that in future it will overtake Japan and become the third largest economy. She was speaking at a conference of state office bearers and water union presidents organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Morcha at the BJP state office in Vijayawada. She said 58 per cent of the people in the country still depend on agriculture for their livelihood. It is said that 70 per cent of the people here are in the rural economy. She said environmental changes are affecting farmers and it is best to select high-yielding seeds based on rainfall. She said the government is working to ensure remunerative prices for agricultural produce.

“Legalisation of minimum support price is difficult.” This is because the same crop is grown under different conditions in different states. The government has taken several steps to make agriculture profitable. The central government has started a gene bank for seeds. It is promoting agriculture with special focus on 100 backward districts. We have increased the loan limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1 lakh. From Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh through Kisan Credit Card. “Why did the Congress, which was in power in 2006, not implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission?” Purandeswari asked.
