India is deeply concerned by developments in Iran and the Gulf region: Ministry of External Affairs

NEW DELHI, (IANS) New Delhi, (IANS): India on Saturday said it is deeply concerned by the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region and urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritize the safety of civilians.

A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “India is deeply concerned by the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region. We urge all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritize the safety of civilians. Dialogue and diplomacy must be pursued to de-escalate tensions and resolve internal issues. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected.”

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Our missions in the region are in touch with Indian nationals and have issued appropriate advisories to them to remain vigilant, stay in touch with the missions, and follow local security guidelines.”

Earlier in the day, the Indian Embassy in Tehran advised all Indian nationals in Iran to exercise extreme caution in view of the evolving situation, avoid non-essential travel, and stay indoors as much as possible.

Providing the Embassy’s emergency contact details, it said, “Indians may also monitor news reports, stay updated on the situation, and await any further guidance from the Indian Embassy.”

As tensions escalated in the region, the Indian Embassy in Doha issued an “important advisory,” urging all Indian nationals in Qatar to exercise utmost caution and follow all news and advisories issued by the Embassy and local authorities.

The advisory read, “In view of the current regional situation, all Indian nationals in Qatar are advised to exercise utmost caution and follow all news and advisories issued by the Embassy and local authorities. Our Embassy is operating as usual.”

It further stated, “Everyone is requested to heed the emergency alert issued by local authorities, which, for public safety, urges everyone to stay away from the vicinity of military sites and remain indoors, whether indoors or outdoors, and only venture out or move around when absolutely necessary to avoid any risk.”

The Indian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has also issued an urgent advisory in light of the current regional situation, urging all Indian nationals in the UAE to avoid non-essential travel, exercise utmost caution and vigilance, and follow the safety guidelines and advisories issued by the UAE authorities and the Embassy.

It stated, “The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai are operating normally and will issue updates as needed,” and urged Indian nationals in the UAE to contact toll-free and WhatsApp numbers in case of any emergency.

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday morning that the US military is conducting a “major and sustained” attack on Iran to “destroy their missiles and destroy their missile industry.”

“The United States military is conducting a major and sustained operation…,” he said in a video message on his social media platform, Truth Social. “We’re going to destroy their missiles and destroy their missile industry.”
