New Delhi. A court here on Saturday sent chief engineer (retd) Jagdish Arora and contractor Anil Aggarwal to 14-day judicial custody till February 24 in a case related to irregularities in awarding of tenders by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested the accused on January 31 and filed an application in the court requesting to send the accused persons to judicial custody. Duty Special Judge, Rouse Avenue Court, Nyaya Bindu directed the jail authorities to provide medical examination and proper medical aid to both the accused persons during their custody.
The ED’s allegations include awarding the DJB contract for supply, installation, testing and commissioning of electromagnetic flow meters to M/s NKG Infrastructure Limited, even though the company was allegedly not meeting the technical norms. It is claimed that the accused received illegal bribe of Rs 3 crore and awarded a contract worth Rs 38 crore to M/s NKG Infrastructure Limited, which subcontracted the work to M/s Integral Screw Industries owned by Anil Kumar Aggarwal. ED’s application was opposed by accused Anil Aggarwal’s lawyer Nagesh Bahl. The accused’s lawyer argued that a low cost tender was given. He accused the ED of misleading the court. He argued that no chargesheet has been filed by the CBI in the scheduled crime and said the ED should have waited for the chargesheet before taking action.
