IMD predicts bad weather and strong winds till June 18

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has informed that fishing should not be done in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts due to the possibility of bad weather with strong winds with a speed of 40 to 45 km per hour and on some occasions up to 55 km per hour.

Special warning

Gusty winds of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional up to 65 kmph are likely over Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin region of South Tamil Nadu coast till June 18.

Arabian Sea
Very strong winds with a speed of 145 to 155 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 170 kmph are likely over North East Arabian Sea. The speed of this wind is likely to decrease to 125 to 135 kmph on June 15 and 150 kmph on some occasions. On June 16 morning, wind speed will decrease to 45 to 55 kmph and at some occasions up to 65 kmph.

Gusty winds of 60 to 70 kmph at occasional 80 kmph are likely over the Middle East Arabian Sea. This wind speed is likely to be 40 to 50 kmph and at some occasions up to 60 kmph on the morning of June 15.


Gusty winds with a speed of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional gusting to 65 kmph are likely over Central West and North West Arabian Sea areas*. Strong winds are likely over Saurashtra coast, Kutch coast and Gulf of Kutch.


Winds upto 65 to 75 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 85 kmph are likely on June 14 in the coastal areas of Porbandar and Devbhumi Dwarka districts. Very strong wind speed of 125 to 135 kmph and occasional gust up to 150 kmph is possible in Kutch, Porbandar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh and Morbi districts on June 15.


Wind speed is likely to decrease to 85 to 95 kmph and at some occasions up to 105 kmph over Kutch and Saurashtra coasts on June 16 morning. The wind speeds are likely to reduce its wind speed to 50 to 60 kmph and at some occasions to 70 kmph by noon on June 16.


Gusts of 55 to 65 kmph and occasional gust to 75 kmph are likely on June 14 and June 15 in Saurashtra coastal districts not mentioned above.

Bay of Bengal

Strong winds and bad weather conditions with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional up to 55 kmph are possible over Andaman Sea, Southeast Bay of Bengal, Central East Bay of Bengal and Southwest Bay of Bengal along the Sri Lankan coast on June 14.

Strong winds with speed of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional up to 65 kmph and bad weather are likely over Andaman Sea and adjoining South East Bay of Bengal on June 15.


Strong winds of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 65 kmph are likely over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast from June 16 to June 17.


Strong winds and bad weather conditions with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional 55 kmph are likely over South East Bay of Bengal on June 17.

Strong wind speed of 45 to 55 kmph at occasional 65 kmph is likely over Andaman Sea, Southeast Bay of Bengal and Southwest Bay of Bengal along Sri Lankan coast on June 18. Fishing should not be done on the above date and area.
