IMD issues yellow alert for East Rajasthan till September 8-9

Rajasthan: The forecast adds to the existing challenges in the region, which is already reeling under floods in Vijayawada and adjoining areas. Despite the flood waters receding a bit earlier, fresh rains and another breach in the Budmeru drain have again led to flooding in parts of Vijayawada. The local administration is on high alert as the flood waters have again disrupted normal life. Relief operations are underway, with 46,320 people staying in 226 relief camps in Andhra Pradesh. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively involved in assisting flood-affected residents.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for East Rajasthan, warning of continued rainfall activity in the region from September 8 to 9, especially in Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions. The IMD has also informed that a low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwards and intensify into a depression, impacting areas like West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coast. Heavy rains are forecast in south Bengal from September 9, while heavy rains are likely in East and West Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas and Jhargram districts. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea along the West Bengal-Odisha coast from September 8 to 10 as the weather is likely to be rough and winds are likely to blow at a speed of 40-50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph. Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have led to road closures in several districts, with the IMD issuing a yellow alert for Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur. The local weather office has also warned of a low chance of flash floods in some areas.
