IIT-JEE candidate beaten to death, suspects detained for questioning

A 17-year-old IIT-JEE aspirant was killed in an attack in Indira Vihar area, police said on Tuesday.

He said the fallen man was attacked with iron bars and chains by some youths, who were also training students, while he was on a post here on Monday night.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Satyaveer alias Rajveer alias Raunak, who was preparing for IIT-JEE at a training institute here for about two years.

He said that Satyaveer, a class 11 student, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he died

A businessman in the area said he saw some youths chasing the 17-year-old with iron bars and chains, adding that they eventually attacked him.

Police said that around 7 pm on Monday evening, a fight broke out between the students undergoing training.

During the attack, Nayak, the student, took her to his residence where her condition deteriorated late in the night, following which she was immediately taken to the hospital where she died, he said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhavani Singh, circle officer of the area, said it was suspected that seven or eight students in training were involved in the deadly attack.

However, the reason behind the attack has not yet been ascertained from the investigation, he said.

The DSP also said that some suspects have been arrested in the case and they are being interrogated.
