ICICI Bank’s former CEO Chanda Kochhar took a bribe of 64 crores

Business Desk | Chanda Kochhar, former MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, misappropriated the bank’s funds for her personal use. The Central Investigation Agency CBI (CBI) told this in the court on Monday. CBI said that Chanda Kochhar took a bribe of Rs 64 crore. The agency told the court that fraud and irregularities have been committed in giving loans to Videocon group companies. The agency requested the court to take cognizance of the charge sheet filed against Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar and others in the matter.

The CBI said in its charge sheet that Chanda Kochhar gave loans to Videocon group companies that did not meet the loan norms. In return, he took a bribe of Rs 64 crore and a flat in Churchgate, Mumbai, owned by Videocon, was transferred to his family.

The CBI said Kochhar got a flat in CCI Chambers in Churchgate in 2016 for just Rs 11 lakh, while her son bought a flat in November 2021 on the same floor in the same building for Rs 19.11 crore.

Explain that Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar and Videocon Group promoter VN Dhoot have been accused of corruption in the Rs 3,250 crore loan case. The CBI had filed an 11,000-page charge sheet in the case in late March, naming all three. The agency also named Dhoot’s nephew, Saurabh Dhoot, former director of Videocon International Electronics Ltd (VIEL), and Dattatraya Kadam, the company’s chartered accountant. The Kochhars were also made accused in the case by the CBI in December last year. Later, the Bombay High Court granted interim bail to the couple.”
