ICE seizure: Peddler sent on 3-day police remand

Crystal meth, commonly known as ICE (methamphetamine), is infiltrating the drug market in Punjab.

Recently, this came to light during the interrogation of Simranjit Singh alias Simar Maan, the main suspect in the seizure of 2 kg of ICE smuggled from Pakistan through drone. Maan is a farmer and has been engaged in illegal trade for the last several months.

Mann was produced in the court, from where he has been sent on three-day police remand.

Although senior police officials remained tight-lipped on the further links to whom he was supposed to supply the drugs, it has been reliably learned that the drugs were meant not only in Punjab but also to metro cities outside the state. The drug is popular among drug addicts in the Doaba region, an official said.

According to the police, the seized ICE was smuggled by two Pakistan-based smugglers Pathan and Amer.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that investigation is ongoing to find out further links of Simar Mann. “We cannot reveal anything at this time as it will affect the investigation,” he said.
