Hyderabad: SIT seizes Rs 11 crore in Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the financial irregularities in the liquor policy of the YSRCP-led government in Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday seized Rs 11 crore from a guest house in Shamshabad, a suburb of the city. According to information received, the cash was hidden in carton boxes at a guest house located in Kacharam village. The raid was conducted based on the statement given by a suspect Varun Purushothaman during interrogation in the liquor scam investigation.
In June 2024, Varun reportedly confessed that he had hidden the boxes in the guest house with the help of an associate named Vinay. The hiding was allegedly done on the instructions of Raj Kashi Reddy and another person named Chanakya. Following this, SIT officials raided the premises and seized the cash, confirming that it was linked to the illegal liquor transactions of the previous government. The SIT is also investigating the role of Chanakya and Vinay in the movement and storage of illegal money. It is noteworthy that the SIT has so far detected financial irregularities worth more than Rs 3,500 crore in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam.
