Hyderabad: Police crackdown on Osmania University (OU) students demanding withdrawal of the university circular banning protests on campus continued on Saturday. Several students, including BRSV secretary Janaiah, were picked up by the local police from hostels on the university campus. Janaiah demanded immediate withdrawal of the undemocratic circular and termed it a violation of students’ rights. He criticised the Telangana Congress government for arresting students who questioned the university administration.
“The fight against the circular will continue until the university administration withdraws it,” he said. Highlighting the Congress’ assembly election manifesto, including the promise of electric scooters for women students, Janaiah demanded immediate fulfilment of all promises. The BRSV secretary informed that the university students have been raising concerns over the need for better facilities, including setting up new hostels and libraries on the campus. Additionally, he demanded the state government to release pending fee reimbursements without any delay. The arrested students included B Nagaraj Yadav, V Ramakrishna and Sai Goud of BRSV and Nellie Satya and Bhagat of AISF, who were shifted to the OU police station.
