Hyderabad: KRMB transfer, more in favor of Kurnool or Vijayawada

Hyderabad: The voice in favor of shifting Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to Vijayawada or Kurnool has become louder. Many people are not in favor of shifting the seat of the junta to Visakhapatnam as proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government. The joint has a total of 56 employees from both technical and non-technical sectors and most of them are from Andhra Pradesh. He has made his options clear to insist on shifting the seat of the junta to some other location chosen by the government within the Krishna river basin. Sources said it would not be appropriate to shift the seat of the junta to Visakhapatnam, as in its absence a courageous person would be required to manage the water distribution issues entrusted to the junta. Now that AP is in agreement with Telangana to claim a greater voice in the conduct of joint projects in Krishna, it will insist on immediate transfer of the KRMB seat. This will be more so in the context of the clash between police forces of the two states at the Nagarjuna Sagar press site on November 29. As KRMB is preparing to take over the operational control of joint projects including Srisailam Presa and Nagarjuna Sagar Presa of the two coastal states, it will be a difficult task for it to manage the operations at a distance. Visakhapatnam is very far from the well of Krishna river. The only justification for shifting the Junta to Visakhapatnam is that it will facilitate coordination between the KRMB and the Hydrological Resources Department of AP which will be based in Visakhapatnam. The junta high command may give priority to Visakhapatnam, as the junta chairman is also in-charge of the Polavaram project. But whenever there was an emergency, the rest of the personnel had no other option but to go to Hyderabad to reach the projects by road. The same pattern of frequency of project will be adopted which will be mandatory during monsoon season. But support personnel will not be entitled to expensive air travel. Additionally, the board of directors, which insists on allotment of office space of approximately 17,000 square feet, is yet to receive definite confirmation in this regard. Apart from representatives of farmer organizations from Rayalaseema region in AP, Telangana government has also requested the AP government to shift the junta to a location convenient to all interested parties within the river basin. The shifting of the KRMB seat may take a little more time, as the Superior Tribunal of AP has directed the state government not to shift government offices to Visakhapatnam until all petitions questioning the measure are resolved .
