Hyderabad: Immunologist warns, focus on increasing immunity

Hyderabad: Instead of getting infected with Covid, it is better to be prepared by taking precautions like strengthening immunity. While one should not panic about the current situation, it does not mean that you should not worry. Once a person is infected with Covid, unlike other viral infections, SARS-CoV-2 remains in the human body for a long time, leading to long Covid symptoms, which is not good for overall health. Hyderabad-based immunologist Dr Vyakaranam Nageshwar, who has treated 4 to 5 Covid infections in the last week, says that the spike protein that comes with Covid-19 infection remains in the body for a long time even after the patient recovers.

He said, “The spike protein is already present in the body due to natural Covid infection during earlier pandemic waves. These spike proteins are not necessarily a complete, replicating virus but fragments or antigens. This is where a healthy immunity helps. A strong immunity keeps these remnants/antigens under control.” He said that one should not be careless just because one recovers quickly and the symptoms are not severe. He said that it is very important to focus on immunity. Dr Vyakaranam reiterated that “We do not know where the current wave of Covid infection will take us. I urge people not to take the current surge lightly. They should take basic precautions and focus on immunity.”

How to boost immunity?

There are many ways like traditional Indian medicine and allopathy to improve the immunity of the body. ‘A perfect balance between the two is better. I urge families to pay attention to their vitamin D3, C, zinc and magnesium levels apart from traditional Indian ways to improve immunity. It is better to get multivitamin levels checked in the body, as they are very important for immunity,” he added.
