Hyderabad gears up for Sankranti festival

Hyderabad: As the buzz of New Year celebrations fades away, the streets of Hyderabad are buzzing in anticipation of the upcoming Makar festival Sankranti. As the festival approaches, the city comes alive with comets, characters and other festive items, while vendors set up posts along the length of the streets, creating a kaleidoscope of colors and emotions. The joy of flying comets during Sankranti holds a special place in the hearts of Hyderabadis. The sky has begun to be decorated with colorful comets flying in the air, and the city is full of emotions as vendors prepare to meet the demand of enthusiastic comet flight lovers. Hyderabad’s famous markets, from Charminar to Secunderabad, have turned into vibrant and colorful hubs as the streets are filled with stands displaying a variety of colorful comets and charakas. While the city is scrapping New Year celebrations, vendors are setting the stage for Sankranti celebrations. Anand, who owns a post in Banjara Hills, shared his views on this change and said: “The energy of New Year celebrations has shifted to Sankranti preparations. It’s the first day of the post’s inception and it feels like the beginning of a new chapter and full of emotions. The days leading up to Makar Sankranti will see a great deal of activity on the streets of Hyderabad as families, friends and enthusiasts prepare to participate in the ancient tradition of flying comets. Rajesh, a salesman who has been selling Cometa in Secunderabad for over a decade, shared his excitement over the response he received from customers this year. Dijo: “It is fantastic to see so many families coming to buy Cometa. The Sankranti excitement is palpable and it seems like people have been waiting for this time of the year.” He said, while people are preparing to organize Sankranti celebrations, they have started receiving orders for big comets as part of the celebrations. Sankranti is proving to be a boon for sweets and gift shops beyond the post office. With new orders coming in, the sweets and gift shops are full of activity, receiving more and more orders with their upcoming basket collections for the festive season.
