Hyderabad: As a precautionary measure, emergency pumping has started at the Yellampalli project after a gap of eight years. HMWS&SB Managing Director (MD) Sudarshan Reddy inspected the works at Murmur on Thursday. A total of 20 pumps have been installed, of which seven are being used now. The rest will also be used as per requirement. According to the press statement, 168 million gallons per day (MGD) of water will be supplied to the city through the Godavari scheme.
The statement said, “There was no flooding from the Upper Kadam Project as the rainfall was less. As a result, the water level in the Yellampalli project started decreasing gradually. If this continues, there will be problems in water supply. Therefore, as a precaution, water is being lifted through emergency pumping before such problems arise.” This will provide water to Madhapur, Kondapur, Gachibowli, Hitech City, Lingampalli, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Kukatpally, KPHB, Quthbullapur, Alwal, Malkajgiri and surrounding areas.
