Hyderabad: Buoyed by the support the party received in the Lok Sabha polls in the state, the BJP leadership has asked its Telangana unit leaders to capitalise on the gains made in the Lok Sabha elections in the upcoming local body elections. The BJP leadership wants the state unit to maintain its momentum till the local body polls so that it can emerge as a force in the state. “The electoral scenario of the state has changed in favour of the party and the encouraging performance in the Lok Sabha polls will be reflected in the upcoming local body elections,” Union Coal Minister and BJP state unit chief G Kishan Reddy told party functionaries during a recent state executive meeting.
Sources say the BJP in Telangana decided to reach out to the public in the districts with a new slogan “Salam Telangana ko” to thank the people for reposing faith in the BJP by electing eight MPs and garnering 35 per cent vote share. The BJP’s state executive recently adopted a “Salam Telangana ko” resolution to thank the people of Telangana for supporting the BJP. The BJP is planning to launch outreach programmes to reach out to people in the interiors of the state with the slogan “Salam Telangana” to strengthen the party’s position and secure an impressive victory in the next local body elections.
As the BJP managed to gain lead in 46 assembly constituencies and came second in 44 assembly constituencies, the BJP state leadership believes that the party’s performance during the Lok Sabha elections reflects the growing acceptance of the BJP by Telangana voters. The BJP feels that the Congress cannot survive for long due to its inherent group politics and failure to deliver guarantees and other big promises to the people. Therefore, to keep the memory of the big impractical promises made by the Congress to the people during the elections fresh in the people’s memories, the state BJP was planning to activate all its frontal organisations including Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha, ABVP to intensify agitations across the state in the coming days.
