BUSINESS: In a landmark achievement for India, Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, announced that the company’s first all-women mine rescue team participated in the XIII International Mine Rescue Competition, securing second place in the “Women Task Force” category. Organised by the National Mining Agency of Colombia and led by the International Mine Rescue Body (IMRB), this year’s competition saw over 20 teams from eight countries participate. Significantly, this is the first time that an all-women team will represent India at this prestigious venue.
The annual competition hosted by various countries included rescue exercises and tests simulating critical mine rescue scenarios. Known for evaluating both practical and technical knowledge, the competition tested teams across six categories, making it the first all-women team to represent India and gain international recognition, giving our country an edge in the global mining sector. Competing against over 20 teams from various countries in a gender-neutral environment, these incredible women made India proud on the world stage. This is an incredible moment for all of us as this team has proven that women are just as capable as men and shine with courage, determination and strength.
