Himachal: Young girls uplifted by the desire for jobs

Himachal Pradesh: In a commendable step towards holistic development and girl empowerment, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has launched a special initiative for school girls in the age group of 10 to 12 years in Himachal Pradesh. Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, NTPC is organising a workshop on the theme “Sashakt Balikayein, Sashakt Rashtra” during summer vacation at its campus in Bilaspur. The workshop focuses on self-defence, yoga, sports, arts and crafts and personality development. A total of 47 girl students studying in class 6 of government schools from coal-dam affected districts of Bilaspur, Mandi, Solan and Shimla are participating in it.

The initiative, which will begin on July 12 and end on August 8, also includes training in stage management, public speaking and value-based education. A major highlight of the programme is the follow-up sessions planned during the winter vacation, which will continue till the girl students complete their higher secondary education. Umesh Kumar, HR Head, NTPC Bilaspur, informed that a seven-day winter follow-up workshop has already been successfully conducted, where girl students participated in various activities and shared their experiences. He confirmed that such programmes will continue in future as well. Additionally, NTPC-Kol Dam has provided sports equipment to 35 government schools in four districts, benefiting more than 6,200 girl students and contributing to their physical and mental development.
