Himachal Pradesh: In a major breakthrough, Shimla police arrested three drug peddlers including a kingpin with 41.81 grams of heroin (chitta) at the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Tutikandi. The accused have been identified as Balbir Singh alias Fauji of Nagdhar village in Nankhari tehsil of Shimla, kingpin Akhilesh Kumar Mehta of Kholighat village in Nankhari tehsil and Saven Mehta of Shalg village in Nankhari, Shimla. The trio were arrested when they were stopped by police for routine checking while on their way to Nankhari from the bus stand. During the investigation, police recovered contraband from them. According to police, the accused have been involved in drug smuggling, especially chitta, in Nankhari area and have cases registered against them earlier. The kingpin of the gang, Balbir Singh, is already facing trial in a drug-related case. Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi confirmed the arrests and said further investigation is underway. Man arrested with 668 grams of ganja in Shimla
In a separate case, Ajay Kumar of Belag village in Chaupal tehsil was arrested with 668 grams of ganja in Nerwa area. The accused changed his direction after seeing the police team at Neoti village, following which he was detained. The police searched him on suspicion and recovered ganja. Shimla SP confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and further investigation is underway.
