Himachal: Person dies after being hit by high speed vehicle

Shimla: 18-year-old boxer Ashika and her coach Pankaj were seriously injured when a speeding SUV hit them while they were returning home in Nogli of Shimla district on Wednesday morning. The two had just finished their practice and were returning when the car, which was going from Shimla to Rampur, lost control around 9.30 am. The car first hit a parked vehicle and then hit two pedestrians. Ashika suffered a leg fracture while Pankaj suffered spinal injury. Both were admitted to Khaneri Hospital for treatment. Police have arrested the driver Ratan Dogra and registered a case.

Retired officer duped of Rs 82 lakh

Hamirpur: A retired Himachal Pradesh officer was duped of Rs 82 lakh by cyber fraudsters, police have registered a case. The victim, a former SDO, got a link on Facebook which led him to a WhatsApp group of over 150 people. He was promised 1200 per cent return on investment in fake stock apps and IPOs. Believing the scheme, he transferred the money in eight transactions. When the fraudsters did not meet his demand for refund of the money, he reported the matter to the cyber cell. The officials froze Rs 16 lakh from the accounts of the fraudsters.

Smuggler held with heroin

Nurpur: The district anti-narcotics task force arrested an interstate drug smuggler Vinod Kumar from Pathankot in Punjab. About 105 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. Besides, the Rehan police arrested Abhishek Mankotia and Vansh, residents of Batran village, for possessing 6.78 grams of heroin.
