Himachal: One person injured in another bear attack

Himachal Pradesh: In yet another incident of human-animal conflict, a man was seriously injured in a bear attack on Darbari hill. The victim was identified as Noor Jamal, a resident of Pleyur gram panchayat in Chamba tehsil.
The bear inflicted deep wounds on Noor Jamal’s face and head. His screams caught the attention of other locals grazing their animals nearby, who rushed to the spot to rescue him. The bear fled as soon as the villagers arrived. Noor Jamal was admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba.
Doctors at the college said Noor Jamal’s condition is stable. Increasing human population and shrinking habitat of animals have led to conflict between the two. In the last decade, wild animals have strayed into human settlements and have killed several people in various parts of the hill state.
