Himachal: Minor gives birth to a child, case registered against a person from Uttar Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh: A case was registered against a boy from Uttar Pradesh in Dharamshala under the POCSO Act after a minor girl gave birth to a child at the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital in Tanda, Kangra district. Police said the incident came to light on March 22 when a senior doctor at the hospital informed authorities that a girl, initially reported to be around 16 years old, had given birth to a boy. The minor, a resident of Shravasti district in Uttar Pradesh, was admitted to the hospital and gave birth to a child the same day.
The police recorded her statement. During the initial investigation, authorities discovered significant discrepancies in the victim’s age. Medical records showed her age as 20, 25, and even 28 years old at different times and places. However, based on the latest verification of documents, her age was found to be 16 years. Additional Superintendent of Police Bir Bahadur said the discrepancy in age records is being thoroughly investigated. An FIR has been registered against the accused, who hails from Shravasti district in Uttar Pradesh, and an investigation is underway to find out why the victim’s age was wrongly recorded earlier.
