Himachal Pradesh: Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Shashikant of Jawali, Kangra district, on Friday convicted Ravi Kumar, a resident of Banal village in Fatehpur, of transporting illicit liquor, sentencing him to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000. According to the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) of Jawali, who represented the government, on the morning of January 27, 2018, a Fatehpur police team, while on patrol, spotted Ravi near the local Banal ravine with a plastic can filled with illicit liquor. Upon seeing the police team, he fled but was chased and apprehended. Police recovered five liters of illicit liquor (stored in a plastic can) from him. The accused was unable to produce any legal documents for transporting the seized liquor. A case has been registered under the Excise Act at the Fatehpur police station, where he already has several similar cases registered against him under the Excise Act.
