Himachal: Man arrested with 27 grams of chitta and Rs 2.29 lakh

Himachal Pradesh: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Chamba police arrested a man from Bhairian village near Chamba town with 27.94 grams of chitta (heroin) and Rs 2.29 lakh in cash. The accused has been identified as Arvind Kumar, a resident of Bhairian. Acting on an information, a police team of Sultanpur police station was conducting routine patrolling on Chamba-Mangala-Jot road when they received information about illegal drug trafficking from a shop in Bhairian. Based on this information, the team raided the suspected spot and recovered drugs and cash during a thorough search of the shop. Chamba SP Abhishek Yadav said the accused has been arrested and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sadar police station in Chamba.

Arvind Kumar is a repeat offender and has been involved in drug trafficking cases earlier as well, for which legal proceedings are underway. The arrested person was produced before a local court on Tuesday, which sent him on three-day police remand for further investigation. The SP confirmed the arrest and stressed the police department’s intensive efforts to eliminate drug trafficking in the district. “We have laid a wide net to nab the drug peddlers. No person involved in drug trafficking will be spared,” he said. He appealed to the people to report any suspicious activity related to the drug trade in their areas.
