Shimla: Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Himachal Pradesh on Monday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 99th birth anniversary, with former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur saying the country can never forget him.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is organizing several programs across the country on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which is celebrated as Good Governance Day.
Jai Ram Thakur and other leaders paid tribute to the former PM at a program on the Ridge in Shimla.
Speaking on the occasion, Thakur mentioned Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s special relationship with Himachal Pradesh and the achievements during his leadership.
Thakur also mentioned the poems written by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He said, “The country can never forget Atal ji, he laid a network of roads which helped in connecting the rural areas of Himachal. The Atal Tunnel is one of his contributions to the state.”
Thakur said, “He was a leader who contributed to India’s nuclear power. He led the Kargil war and defeated Pakistan.”
The objective of Good Governance Day is to increase public access to various government programs and services.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Congress leader and Shimla Mayor Surendra Chauhan also paid tribute to the late leader.
