Himachal: Farmers Association demanded ban on imported seeds

Himachal Pradesh: Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Kisan Union (BSK) has demanded a ban on the use of imported GM seeds for cultivation of crops in the country and submitted a memorandum to the Central Government through Kangra Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Bhardwaj in this regard. A delegation of the union led by state vice-president Roshan Lal and district president (Kangra) Hoshiyar Singh submitted the memorandum to the MP in Jassur yesterday. The union has appealed to the MP to raise the issue in the winter Lok Sabha session. The union has described the use of GM seeds as dangerous for the environment and soil. The union has said in its memorandum that some multinational companies are trying to sell seeds in India. However, the use of such seeds is neither in the interest of farmers nor good for the environment. The union alleged that the companies are trying to eliminate the use of traditional seeds in the Indian agriculture sector. Bhardwaj assured the delegation that their concern will be raised in Parliament.
