Himachal Pradesh: The Department of Education, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) organised an event to mark International Literacy Day. The event was attended by Prof Ajay Kumar Atri, Dr Chaman Lal (Chairman, Department of Education), Dr Yudhvir, Dr Kanika Handa, Dr Rakesh Kumar and medical students. Dr Chaman Lal informed that UNESCO had chosen 8 September to highlight the universal right to education.
He emphasised that the day is a reminder of the transformative power of literacy and the global commitment to education as a fundamental human right. He further informed that the theme of the day in 2025 is “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Age”, and in some regions it has a co-theme “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace”. Prof Atri emphasised the need to integrate traditional literacy with digital skills. He emphasised the importance of eliminating digital illiteracy in marginalised communities.
