Himachal Pradesh: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Tuesday that financial assistance of over ₹17 crore has been provided to 2,263 beneficiaries under various welfare schemes for veterans in the state. Reiterating the government’s commitment to the well-being, dignity, and socio-economic empowerment of veterans, gallantry award winners, and the families of martyrs, he said, “The state’s veterans and their families are a very valuable asset. Their unparalleled contribution and supreme sacrifice in the nation’s security will always be remembered with gratitude and pride.” The Chief Minister stated that ₹6.12 crore has been provided to 968 senior pensioners to ensure financial security and a dignified life. Additionally, 1,084 gallantry award winners have received an honorarium of ₹3 crore for their outstanding courage and service to the nation.
He added that ₹7.62 crore has been provided to the dependents of 57 defense personnel martyred or disabled in battle, providing significant financial assistance to their families. An amount of Rs 20.83 lakh was also disbursed to 154 war jagir beneficiaries under the government’s ongoing welfare initiatives. Emphasizing on efforts to motivate the youth, Sukhu said that a budget of Rs 2.28 crore has been approved for organizing Army recruitment rallies in Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Shimla districts. The initiative aims to promote the spirit of patriotism among the youth and encourage them to pursue a career in the armed forces. The CM said that Rs 10.26 crore has been allocated for strengthening the Major Somnath Training Academy in Barchhwar, Mandi district for the financial year 2025-26.
