Himachal: Buruwa Panchayat organizes langar for truck drivers

Himachal Pradesh: As part of a humanitarian initiative, the Buruwa Gram Panchayat and Hind Yuvak Mandal organised langar for 200 truck drivers and conductors stranded at Bahang and Vashisht due to the closure of the Manali-Leh national highway. The highway has been blocked since August 26. Volunteers from the local community, including youth and women, prepared and distributed nutritious food and daily essentials, demonstrating the power of collective action. Buruwa Panchayat president Chuda Mani Thakur appreciated the collaborative spirit and lauded the role of the district administration in the relief efforts. He said, “The administration has provided all possible assistance to the stranded people.
This joint effort shows how the community and authorities can work together in times of crisis.” A panchayat member said residents have contributed generously to ensure that no person remains without food and basic necessities. The closure of the highway has caused huge losses to transporters and traders and disrupted supply chains to Lahaul-Ladakh, but the empathetic response of the panchayat and Hind Yuvak Mandal has brought much-needed relief. Their actions are a shining example of community service, perseverance in the face of adversity, and solidarity.
