Himachal: 27 thousand students from across the state participated in the Parikh survey

Himachal Pradesh: Over 27,000 students appeared for the Parikh Survey exam held in 1,215 schools across the state on Wednesday. Thousands of students of classes three, six and nine appeared for the exam conducted by NCERT through Samagra Shiksha. 1,367 field inspectors were deployed to conduct the exam. The performance of the students will decide the state’s position in the survey. The state was ranked 21st in the last Parikh Survey. The education department has made serious efforts to improve the state’s position in this exam, including conducting mock tests for students. The exam was conducted in 1,215 schools – 589 government schools, 505 private schools and 113 Kendriya Vidyalayas. The survey was conducted on OMR sheets.

According to the Samagra Shiksha spokesperson, the exam tested the knowledge of language, mathematics and ‘the world around us’ (EVS) of students of classes three and six. The knowledge of language, mathematics, science and social sciences of class nine students was tested. As per the guidelines of the government, Samagra Shiksha and the Education Department together prepared for the survey on a large scale. Zero periods were set up in schools, survey related question papers were made available to schools on the practice portal of Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) of Samagra Shiksha and students were made to practice on OMR sheets so that they could become well acquainted with the process. Apart from this, three mock tests were conducted in schools before the survey to assess the preparation of school children. About 1.60 lakh students participated in the first mock test, about 1.76 lakh students participated in the second and about 3 lakh students from government schools as well as private schools participated in the third test.
