THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the current tariff period expires tomorrow, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission will make a decision today on the revised electricity rates for the 2024-25 year. KSEB has proposed rate hikes, including a 10-paise increase per unit as a summer tariff from January to May.
The commission finalized the tariff after gathering public opinion from the public in various districts. These hearings had witnessed severe opposition from the public towards the rate hike. This has also been taken into consideration by the commission. Both the commission and the government are reportedly not in favour of implementing the summer tariff. The commission sought the advice of the Law Department and Election Commission to know if the model code of conduct for by-elections would hinder the tariff announcement. After discussing this today, the commission will make a final decision regarding the announcement. If there is no obstacle, the commission plans to announce the new rate immediately and implement it from November 1.
