New Delhi: It is known that there is severe air pollution in Delhi. However, the Delhi High Court has expressed dissatisfaction over the non-reduction of GST on air purifiers. Keeping in mind the air quality and considering it as an emergency, the court has asked for a reduction in taxes on air purifiers. A bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela took up the arguments in this case. A petition was filed in the court seeking to reduce the GST on air purifiers from 18 percent to 5 percent by considering them as medical devices.
However, the government has expressed dissatisfaction over the inaction. The Dharmasana said that every citizen wants clean air, but the authorities are not providing it. It is said that an average person breathes 21,000 times every day, which means that if we inhale air every time, we have to estimate how much harm it causes. A person named Kapil Madan filed this petition. He said that air purifiers should not be considered luxury items during a severe crisis.
