Guwahati (IANS) | About 1.2 kg of heroin worth Rs 6 crore was seized in two operations in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district and four persons were arrested in this connection. Based on a tip-off, a joint team of police and security forces launched an operation to foil a drug smuggling attempt in Lahorijan area of the district, a senior district police officer said on Thursday. The joint team intercepted a vehicle, which was believed to be coming from Manipur.
During the search of the vehicle, we recovered more than 500 grams of heroin kept in 45 soap boxes, which were hidden in the secret rooms of the vehicle, the police officer said.
Two people were caught during the operation. Police said they are originally from Manipur.
Meanwhile, in another operation in Borpathar area of the district, about 700 grams of heroin, hidden in 44 soap boxes, was seized. Two people were arrested in Borpathar.
