Bijapur. A herd of 17 forest buffaloes has been seen in the forests of Sandra and Maad along the Maharashtra border area of Indravati Tiger Project under Bijapur district. For the first time, the purity of the breed of forest buffaloes seen in such large numbers will be checked.
Pure breed forest buffaloes are left only in Indravati Tiger Project in Chhattisgarh, it also shares its border with Maharashtra and Telangana state, in such a situation, to test whether the species and breed is pure or not, now the Forest Department along with CNB is taking these forest buffaloes. The pure breed will be detected through DNA testing. For this, its DNA will be examined at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology Lab in Hyderabad and information related to genetics will be added.
CCMB Lab expert Dr Sambhashi Rao has recently talked about preparing an action plan in a coordinated meeting with forest officials of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana and Maharashtra at Indravati Tiger Reserve. Let us tell you that there are a total of 37 forest buffaloes in the state, out of which 17 have been found in the Indravati Tiger Project. They are estimated to be the purest breed.
