Heavy rains disrupt life in Karnataka

Mangaluru (IANS). Heavy rains lashed parts of Karnataka throwing normal life out of gear in the state. Coastal areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts have been receiving heavy rains since Monday evening. For the first time this season, the monsoon has now gained momentum.

Torrential rains in Mangaluru left low-lying areas inundated with water, while traffic was also affected due to water-logging.

Due to overflowing of rain drains, water has accumulated up to four to five feet in some areas of the city.

The authorities have declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Mangaluru, Mulki, Moodbidri, Ullal and Bantwal on Tuesday.

Buses remained off the roads due to floods in many areas, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in the coastal districts till Wednesday.
