Heavy rain wreaks havoc with strong thunderstorm in Jaipur

Jaipur (IANS) | Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, received heavy rains on Thursday night and winds at a speed of 96 kilometers per hour broke all previous records. The Meteorological Department gave this information on Friday. The speed of the storm was more than the Taute storm that came in May 2021 when winds blew at a speed of 75 km per hour.

Due to rain and strong winds, Jaipur recorded a minimum temperature of 17.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday night, the coldest May night in the city in the last 50 years.

In fact, Jaipur, Tonk, Karauli, Dhaulpur, Sawai Madhopur, Jodhpur, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Hanumangarh, Bharatpur, Dausa, Sikar, Nagaur and Alwar received heavy rains in the last 24 hours.

The storm uprooted trees, plants, walls, electric poles and hoardings at various places in the city, causing extensive damage.

Flights were also affected for about an hour.

Apart from Jaipur, there was heavy rain and hailstorm in many other districts including Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu. Due to rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm, the maximum day temperature in many cities of the state also fell 8 degrees Celsius below normal.

Due to sudden rain and hailstorm, the minimum temperature in many districts was recorded below 20 degree Celsius.

Ajmer recorded a minimum temperature of 18.1 degrees Celsius, Bhilwara 18.2 degrees, Vanshali 17.3 degrees, Sikar 16.5 degrees Celsius, which was the lowest minimum temperature in the state.

Apart from this, the minimum temperature in Chittorgarh was 17.5 degree Celsius. The mercury in Churu, which was witnessing 45 degree Celsius heat a few days ago, dropped to 18.5 degree Celsius.

The Meteorological Department issued a red alert in districts like Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, Bhilwara, Ajmer and Sawai Madhopur around midnight and warned of strong winds with a speed of 70-80 kmph.
