Odisha : Amid flood-like situation in north Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over these areas in the next 24 hours.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the rain is due to a low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. “The system is expected to move west-northwestwards into Jharkhand during the next 24 hours,” he said.
He further informed that the southwest monsoon remains active over Odisha. Another spell of heavy rainfall is likely around July 5 and 6 due to a cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts, with heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph.
