Headmaster forces students to apply stinging nettle plants on classmates

Kaliapani: Tension erupted at a primary school in Jajpur district after allegations surfaced that the headmaster had instructed some students to plant stinging nettle on their classmates. Parents and villagers filed a written complaint at the Kaliapani police station, accusing the headmaster of wrongdoing.

Following police intervention, both parties reached a compromise and the matter was resolved. The incident occurred at Saruabil Primary School, under the Kaliapani police jurisdiction in the Sukinda block. According to reports, Basudev Dehuri had joined the school as headmaster only last month. However, villagers alleged that problems began soon after his arrival. Locals claimed that the headmaster arrived drunk on Friday, verbally abused students, and instructed some of them to plant stinging nettle on others. After the incident came to light, angry parents and villagers rushed to the school and confronted the accused. The headmaster reportedly admitted the allegations and later apologized.

Parents alleged that attempts to inform block-level education officials were unsuccessful. They further claimed that the Cluster Resource Center Coordinator (CRCC) tried to suppress the matter by defending the headmaster. Displeased with this, the parents sought police intervention.

Prakash Kumar Pradhan, officer-in-charge of the Kaliapani police station, arrived at the scene, calmed the situation, and warned the headmaster not to repeat such behavior.
