Hathras: The death toll in the stampede at a religious gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras has risen to 121, a senior official said on Wednesday. The Relief Commissioner’s Office said 28 people were injured in the unfortunate incident on Tuesday. 19 of the deceased could not be identified. On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR against the organisers of the religious event. State Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh had initially reported 116 deaths on Tuesday. Most of the victims were women, except seven children and a man. The stampede occurred around 3.30 pm when thousands of people had gathered at Phulrai village in Sikandrarao area for a satsang by religious preacher Bhole Baba. The tragic incident occurred when Baba was leaving the venue.
