Haryana: The two-day state-level Vasantotsav-2025: Flower Exhibition and Flower Competition concluded on Wednesday at SD PG College. IOCL Refinery won the overall trophy. Organised under the joint aegis of Save Environment Society and National Service Scheme, the 11th event was inaugurated by chief guest Roshan Lal Mittal, patron of SD Education Society. The chief guests at the event were Naresh Kumar Goyal, Secretary Satish Chandra, Chairman of SDVM HUDA and Chairman of SD International School Pawan Garg. College Chairman Dinesh Goyal, Vice Chairman Rajiv Garg and Principal Dr. Anupam Arora welcomed the guests. Mittal said that such events are necessary to inculcate love for nature in the hearts of people. The Principal said that gardeners from schools, colleges, nurseries and common people of the state participated enthusiastically in this event. No fee was charged for participating in the flower exhibition. Rangoli, hand printing and ‘selfie with flowers’ competitions were organised for school and college students. Over 600 individuals participated in the individual events, while more than 15 institutions displayed their floral varieties and showcased over 1,500 flower pots. Over 60 varieties of flowers were presented during the event – including petunia, rose, carnation, dianthus, cactus, sage, foliage, geranium, anemone, ranunculus, dahlia, chrysanthemum, cyclamen, calceolaria and pansy. Annu Ahuja, Dr. Monica Khurana and Tannu Mehta were the judges. Bollywood actress Rajni Gupta, who was present at the festival, said that flowers have been teaching many lessons to society over the years. She said flowers and plants are more sensitive than humans as they ‘smile’ even after sacrificing themselves for others. She said plants have taught us selflessness.
