Haryana: 40 workers’ houses destroyed in massive fire, no casualties

Haryana: A massive fire broke out in a two-storey temporary labour accommodation near a construction site in Gurugram’s Sector 54 on Wednesday evening. Though there were no casualties in the incident as most of the workers were at work, the blaze completely gutted around 40 rooms and their belongings. Over 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took over an hour for firefighters to douse the blaze. According to a fire official, the temporary structure near Tulip Builder’s project site caught fire around 5:50 pm.

Upon receiving the information, the fire department immediately rushed four fire tenders from Sector 29 fire station. “The fire spread rapidly as the upper floors had plastic ceilings,” fire officer Rameshwar Dayal said. “Additional fire tenders from Udyog Vihar, Bhim Nagar and Sector 37 rushed to the spot and after over an hour of effort, the fire was finally brought under control,” he added. The official said the cause of the fire was reported to be a short circuit in a fan. “There were no casualties, but all the labour rooms were completely destroyed,” he said.
