Maharashtra: On Republic Day, on Sunday, the All India Divyang Sena protested half naked in front of the Thane Municipal Corporation against the lack of action despite sending letters for various demands for several days. After the assurance of the Municipal Corporation administration, the disabled withdrew the protest. The Sena’s convenor Mohammad Yusuf Mohammad Farooq Khan has warned that if the issues are not resolved within four days, the protest will be started again in front of the Commissioner’s office. The All India Divyang Sena is writing letters to the Municipal Corporation administration regarding the various demands of the disabled of Thane city. In this, the disabled of Thane city have applied for stalls for business to earn a livelihood.
However, stalls, huts and stalls have not been made available to them yet. Action should be taken against those who set up stalls as the Thane Municipal Corporation has not approved new stalls for the disabled. The stalls of the disabled on whose stalls action has been taken should be returned to them. New stalls should be given to the disabled as soon as possible. The Thane Municipal Corporation should disburse grants for the year 2023-24 and the year 2024-25 for the Divyangs as soon as possible. The houses where Divyangs live should be registered by taking their photo passports. Divyangs should be given 50 percent discount in tax and water bills. The demands include appointing 5 percent Divyang members from among the approved corporators of Thane Municipal Corporation to various committees and sending the proposal to the government for approval. Action should be taken against the corrupt and guilty officials of the Thane Municipal Corporation Social Development Department under Section 92 of the Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and competent officials should be appointed in their place.
It is becoming clear that there are many fake Divyang employees in the state. Therefore, Divyang employees should be re-examined for disability and when a place is available for business for the Divyangs, the said place should be shifted to the place where the business is being done as it is not commercial. On October 2, Shiv Sena had shaved their heads and protested in front of Thane Municipal Corporation for these demands. After the assurance of Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, Shiv Sena postponed the protest. But when their assurance was not fulfilled, the disabled protested half naked in front of the Municipal Corporation headquarters on Republic Day. Deputy Commissioner of Social Development Department Anagha Kadam met the protesters. During this meeting, the Commissioner will also be met. She also assured to fulfill the demands of the disabled. After this the protest was postponed.
