Mahisagar (Gujarat): Police have arrested a physical training teacher of a government school in Gujarat’s Mahisagar district for allegedly sexually harassing and threatening a 16-year-old student, an official said on Sunday. Angered by the incident, a group of people vandalised the high school located in Ranjitpura village in the district’s Virpur taluka on Saturday evening, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Vasava told reporters. “The teacher was repeatedly harassing the minor student, pressuring her to have physical relations with him and chatting with him on social media,” he said.
The student informed her relatives about the incident, following which they went to complain to the school principal, the official said. A group of angry villagers vandalised the educational institution. Vasava said after receiving information, the police reached the school on Saturday evening and arrested the teacher. He said an FIR has been lodged against the teacher under sections 75 (use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe or compel her to disrobe) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and section 12 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He said the police have also initiated action against those who damaged the school premises.
